Our second year debaters had a great experience as they participated in the Institute of Carlow’s Annual Debating Competition. We entered two teams of two students. Sarah Kenny and Caoimhe Coady performed very well in the first round. Alanna Davidson and Cora Tyrrell successfully made it through to the next round where they proposed the motion that this house believes that tax incentives should be introduced for developers to promote house building. They were victorious once again which put them through to the final against CBS Naas. They had 40 minutes to prepare speeches opposing the motion that this house believes that enough is being done to promote construction careers. However they were totally unfazed by the topic and put on a wonderful display of debating skills. They were deemed winners overall. They received a beautiful trophy and €500 to share. Thanks so much to David Callanan for his support and assistance on the day.
